The verb "to be"
is very important in many fields of the English grammar. Apart from
all progressive tenses it is also needed for changing the modal verbs
'can' and 'may' into tenses other than present tense and necessary for
forming the passive in all tenses.
However, many students seem to have problems with the forms of the verb
'to be'. So here is a list of all forms (sentence,
question, negation) in all tenses:
present simple
present progressive (only used for passive sentences)
past simple
past progressive
present perfect
(there is no form of "to be" in the progressive form)
past perfect
(there is no form of "to be" in the progressive form)
"will" future
"going to" future
